Farmington is the longest trip we list. It is about 2 hours 10 minutes from our Broadhead Lane base in normal traffic, 84 miles south, so call first to confirm scheduling. We would rather tell you that now than leave you waiting for a truck.

The crossroads of US 67 and Highway 32: what to know before you call

Farmington is the county seat of St. Francois County. The 2020 census counted 18,217 residents and 7,031 housing units in a city at the crossroads of US 67 and Missouri 32. It names BJC Parkland Health Center and the Farmington Correctional Center among its major employers.

Older bungalows and later ranch homes sit side by side in many county-seat neighborhoods.

Settlement dates to 1822. Housing here ranges from older homes near the center to later ranch houses, and we cannot give a precise age profile. What we can do is review the system you describe and say what a repair, a replacement or a planned tune-up would involve.

What work is realistic 84 miles from our shop?

Planned jobs fit best: a replacement quote, a second look at a diagnosis, a fall check.

City Light and Water: $22 a month and 10.22 cents a kilowatt-hour

Farmington runs its own electric utility, City Light and Water, so the heat pump math differs from an Ameren town. The City's utility billing page lists a residential customer charge of $22.00 per month and an energy charge of $0.1022 per kWh, with a winter rate of $0.1022 for the first 1,500 kWh and $0.0958 above that. These are the City's posted rates and can change, so check them before relying on them. If you are weighing a heat pump against a gas or propane furnace, model the winter tier with your own bills. The page mentions no rebate program, so ask the City directly.

City electric and the rebate question

The City of Farmington's utility billing page lists electric, water and sewer service. If the city sends your electric bill, Ameren Missouri's 2026 rebates, which cover Ameren customers only, do not apply to you. Spire lists St. Francois County in its eastern Missouri area, though a gas meter or a propane tank outside tells you which fuel your furnace uses.

948 feet, minus 23 and 114 degrees: both ends of the equipment's range

Farmington's 1991-2020 climate normals show a January mean high of 42.8°F, a July mean high of 88.5°F and 8.7 inches of snow in an average year. The record low is -23°F and the record high is 114°F. A system here is asked to cover both extremes, which is why a fall furnace check and a spring AC check are both worth booking weeks ahead. At that distance, the check you schedule is far cheaper than the emergency trip you would otherwise need.

Courthouse Square, East Columbia and the older blocks

Two National Register districts, Courthouse Square and East Columbia, mark the older core of Farmington. Houses in older districts like these often have little space for new ductwork. The 2020 census counted 6,437 households here with an average size of 2.3. Tell us which part of town the house is in, whether it has a basement and how the rooms are heated now, and we can say whether a ducted replacement or a ductless unit is the likelier answer.

Calling first, and permits in Farmington

Call with the equipment's age, the symptom and what you have tried. A technician diagnoses before replacing parts and gives a clear, upfront quote before any work. Ask the City of Farmington whether your replacement needs a permit, and ask any contractor for the license number it expects. Our heat pump installation and AC replacement pages explain what a written quote should include.

Heating and Cooling in Farmington: common questions

Is it practical to hire your company for a Farmington furnace or AC?

For planned work, sometimes. Farmington is about 2 hours 10 minutes from our base in normal traffic, 84 miles, so call first and talk through the system before anyone drives. For a breakdown, a closer contractor will usually reach you sooner. We are open 24 hours, and we offer same-day service when the schedule allows.

Do Ameren Missouri rebates apply in Farmington?

Not if the City of Farmington is your electric provider. The city's utility billing page lists electric service within its limits, and Ameren's 2026 chart covers Ameren customers only. Check your bill, and ask the city or your provider about any rebate it offers before you sign.

Who licenses and permits HVAC work in Farmington?

Ask the City of Farmington, because Missouri has no statewide HVAC license and local rules differ. We cannot cite a published city rule, so call the city building office, ask any contractor for the license number it expects, and put the permit-puller's name in the written quote.

Kenna did an amazing job! I had another company come out and told me I needed a new furnace because my heat was not coming on. Previous company said could be the motor/fan and that would cost $650, which I was ok with. They didn’t check any parts, but was ready to say I should just get a new heating and cooling unit. I knew my neighbor had service done by Kenyan and said he did a great job. He came out and found it was a capacitor that was causing the issue and fixed it. He is awesome and definitely if I need help again, he will be called and I will use his services!
