Heating and cooling in Jennings, MO starts with equipment that has already been repaired once. The Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey puts the median Jennings home at 1955, with 1,973 units from the 1950s and another 1,235 from the 1940s. Kenan Corporation drives to Jennings in about 20 minutes from our base near Spanish Lake in normal traffic, which makes it one of the easier trips on our map, and a repair-first approach suits an area where a part often outlasts the argument for replacing it.
What 1940s and 1950s houses ask of a furnace
Jennings is a postwar city. It incorporated in 1946, and the ACS shows that 43 percent of its units went up in the 1940s and 1950s, with another 20 percent in 1939 or earlier. Seventy-eight percent are detached houses, and 55 percent of occupied homes are rented, so many repairs involve an owner, a tenant and sometimes a property manager.
Heat comes mostly from gas, 75 percent of occupied homes, and electricity serves 22 percent. A furnace from the 1990s on ducts from the 1950s usually has trouble at the same few points: an igniter, a flame sensor, a blower capacitor or a plugged filter. The return side matters too. One central grille serving a small house is easy to starve with a dirty filter, and the furnace then cycles on its limit switch.
Not every system here is old. The ACS counts 528 units built from 2010 to 2019 and 79 since 2020, so a newer heat pump can sit across the street from a 70-year-old furnace, and the two need different parts, tools and questions. We ask which one you have before leaving.
Because of that, the first step on a Jennings call is to check what is actually failing rather than what is old. Furnace repair covers the common faults, and our AC repair cost guide gives third-party ranges.

Calls from the Jennings Station Road area
Seven kinds of work come up most often in a city of older houses and many renters.

Furnace Repair
Three-quarters of occupied Jennings homes heat with natural gas, and furnaces on 1940s and 1950s ductwork usually fail at igniters, flame sensors or blower motors.

Emergency Furnace Repair
Jennings is one of the shorter drives from our base, which matters on a no-heat night, though we do not promise an arrival time.
Learn more →
AC Repair
With 55 percent of households renting, a condenser often has several occupants and an owner who wants the cause fixed before replacement is discussed, so the diagnosis has to be explained plainly.
Learn more →
Furnace Replacement
About 1,450 Jennings units were built in 1939 or earlier and 1,235 in the 1940s, so some furnaces have outlived two replacements and need a clear replacement quote.
Learn more →
Duct Repair and Replacement
Small postwar houses with a single central return often show duct leaks as one cold bedroom or a furnace that never shuts off, and tracing the leak comes before any repair.
Learn more →
Furnace Maintenance
Jennings requires an inspection and occupancy permit when a home changes owner or tenant, so a landlord can have burners, flue and heat exchanger checked before that date.
Learn more →
Heat Pump Repair
The ACS counts 528 Jennings units built from 2010 to 2019 and 22 percent of homes on electric heat, so newer heat pumps here need defrost, contactor and charge checks rather than furnace parts.

How a Jennings call is handled from the Spanish Lake base
Give the street, the equipment type and what happened. If it is a tenant call, include the landlord's name, since an owner usually approves parts. The technician diagnoses before replacing anything, explains the cause in plain language and gives a clear, upfront quote before work starts. For summer faults, see AC repair. If it is a no-heat night, safe steps before you call lists the checks.

Landlords: an HVAC checklist before a Jennings occupancy inspection
More than half of occupied Jennings homes are rented, and the city's inspection and occupancy permit comes up each time a home changes owner or tenant. Treat the heating and cooling check as part of that turnover, not as a surprise after the inspector books a date. Ask the Building Department what the inspection covers, then work backward.
A turnover visit looks at what a tenant will notice first: the furnace lights and runs a full cycle, the flue is intact, the thermostat controls the system, the AC cools and the condensate line drains. Replace the filter and record its size. We report what is worn and what is fine, and we price the fix before any work starts. Passing a city inspection is the city's decision, not ours.
City Hall, the new community center and the permit desk
Jennings has its own Building Department at City Hall, 2120 Hord Avenue. It issues permits for mechanical, plumbing, electrical and building work, and the city also requires an inspection and occupancy permit when a home changes owner or tenant. Its posted forms do not set out contractor license rules, so ask any contractor, including us, for the license number and confirm it with the department before work starts.
The city opened a 15,595-square-foot community center at 2315 Ada Wortley Avenue in March 2026, on the former River Roads Mall site, and Jennings Station Road remains the road most callers name. Ameren Missouri and Spire supply power and gas.

Learn more →Heating and Cooling in Jennings: common questions
Does Jennings require a permit for a furnace or AC replacement?
The city's Building Department at City Hall, 2120 Hord Avenue, issues permits for mechanical work, and it posts a mechanical permit application you send to BuildingDepartment@cityofjennings.org. The department phone is 314-388-1164. It does not post contractor license rules online, so ask the contractor for their license number and confirm it with the city.
Do landlords in Jennings need to think about HVAC before an occupancy inspection?
Yes, plan for it. Jennings requires an inspection and occupancy permit when a home has a new owner or tenant. Ask the Building Department what the inspection covers, then have the furnace, AC and thermostat checked before the date. A working system leaves time to fix surprises rather than rushing a repair.
Why do you try to repair older equipment first in Jennings?
Kenan Corporation was founded in 2010 by someone who disliked hard-sell pitches and commission goals. In a city where the median home was built in 1955, a part such as a capacitor or igniter often keeps a system working for years. We recommend replacement only when repair no longer makes sense.
What should I do if my furnace quits at night in Jennings?
Check the thermostat, the filter and the furnace switch, then call. We are open 24 hours, and Jennings is about 20 minutes from our base in normal traffic, but we offer same-day service when the schedule allows and do not promise an arrival time. If you smell gas, leave the house and call 911 or Spire first.
Is a heat pump common in Jennings houses?
Less than gas furnaces. The ACS shows 75 percent of occupied homes heat with utility gas and 22 percent with electricity, which includes heat pumps, electric furnaces and resistance heat. If you have an electric system, tell the dispatcher which type, since a defrost fault and a burned-out heat strip are different repairs.

The best in the business!!! So nice, great communication, quick and straight to the point. I can’t recommend Kenan enough!!!
Kenna did an amazing job! I had another company come out and told me I needed a new furnace because my heat was not coming on. Previous company said could be the motor/fan and that would cost $650, which I was ok with. They didn’t check any parts, but was ready to say I should just get a new heating and cooling unit. I knew my neighbor had service done by Kenyan and said he did a great job. He came out and found it was a capacitor that was causing the issue and fixed it. He is awesome and definitely if I need help again, he will be called and I will use his services!
